Orange County, Florida (July 30, 2026) – Five people suffered critical injuries following a two-vehicle car accident Thursday night in the Meadow Woods area of Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The collision occurred near the intersection of Landstar Boulevard and Iowa Woods Circle. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to provide medical assistance, rescue trapped occupants, and secure the area while investigators documented the crash.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 78-year-old Orlando man was driving a 2022 model  car with a 49-year-old Orlando woman as his passenger. The driver was stopped at a stop sign on Iowa Woods Circle and attempted to make a left turn onto Landstar Boulevard.

Investigators said the  driver failed to yield to a 2009 car traveling on Landstar Boulevard. The Civic was driven by a 19-year-old Orlando man and carried two passengers, an 18-year-old Orlando man and a 20-year-old Orlando man.

Authorities said the Subaru struck the front left side of the car, causing the car to leave the roadway and crash into a tree. Orange County Fire Rescue reported that one of the vehicles caught fire following the collision and that three occupants became trapped inside before firefighters successfully extricated them.

The Florida Highway Patrol confirmed that all five individuals involved in the crash sustained critical injuries and were transported to area hospitals for treatment.

The crash prompted a significant emergency response as firefighters, paramedics, and law enforcement officers worked to rescue the victims, extinguish the vehicle fire, and investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision. Traffic in the area was impacted while crews remained on scene.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the Florida Highway Patrol.

General Legal Context for Serious Injury Crashes in Florida

In Florida, motor vehicle crashes involving serious injuries are typically investigated to determine whether negligence, failure to yield, distracted driving, excessive speed, impaired driving, or other traffic violations contributed to the collision. Law enforcement agencies may also review witness statements, vehicle damage, roadway evidence, surveillance footage, and electronic vehicle data as part of the investigation.

Florida follows a modified comparative negligence system, allowing injured parties to seek compensation if they are found to be 50% or less at fault for the incident. Depending on the circumstances, injured victims may be entitled to recover compensation for medical expenses, lost wages, rehabilitation costs, property damage, pain and suffering, and other damages available under Florida law.

When crashes result in catastrophic injuries, determining liability and insurance coverage often requires a detailed review of the evidence gathered during the investigation. Individuals injured in serious motor vehicle collisions may benefit from understanding their legal rights and the insurance claims process following such incidents.
