Davenport, Fla. (July 13, 2026) – A 38-year-old man was killed Saturday afternoon in a head-on crash involving a semi truck on U.S. Highway 17-92 in Davenport, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies said the crash occurred just before 2:30 p.m. when a 37-year-old man driving a semi truck was traveling southbound on U.S. Highway 17-92. At the same time, a 38-year-old man driving a car was traveling northbound.
Investigators said the car driver failed to maintain his lane and drifted across the center line multiple times before crossing completely into the southbound lane, directly into the path of the semi truck. The vehicles collided head-on, and the car driver suffered fatal injuries.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said distracted driving is believed to have been a contributing factor in the crash. The driver of the semi truck remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators.
The investigation into the fatal collision remains ongoing.
