Tampa, Fla. (July 15, 2026) – A teenager was killed after a small aircraft crashed into the Bank of America Tower in downtown Tampa, causing damage to an office area but no additional injuries, according to officials.
Authorities said the incident occurred when a Cessna 172 aircraft struck the side of the downtown Tampa building. The impact killed the pilot and damaged part of the structure.
Investigators examined the circumstances surrounding the crash and determined there was no evidence of outside assistance or an active terrorist connection. Officials classified the incident as an apparent intentional act.
Authorities also reviewed factors that may have contributed to the crash, including the pilot’s mental state and other personal circumstances. The investigation highlighted concerns related to possible psychological effects associated with certain medications, though no definitive cause was established.
The crash remains one of the most notable aviation incidents in Tampa’s history.
