Clermont, Florida (August 9, 2026) – A 36-year-old Clermont man died Sunday after his vehicle struck two trees and overturned in Lake County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred at approximately 2:12 a.m. Sunday on Greater Hills Boulevard, north of Charter Oaks Trail. According to investigators, the man was driving a Porsche Boxster northbound when the vehicle left the roadway and struck a curb.

The Porsche continued northwest before colliding with two trees. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn and come to rest on its roof.

Emergency responders transported the driver to Orlando Health South Lake Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Troopers said the driver was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.

Authorities have not released the man’s identity. The Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the factors that may have caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.

General Legal Context for Fatal Car Accidents in Florida

In Florida, fatal motor vehicle crashes may be investigated to determine whether negligence or other contributing factors played a role in the incident. Depending on the circumstances, investigators may examine issues such as speed, driver impairment, distraction, roadway conditions, visibility, vehicle condition, and other factors.

When a death is caused by wrongful conduct or negligence, Florida’s Wrongful Death Act may allow the decedent’s personal representative to pursue damages for the benefit of eligible survivors and the estate. Depending on the circumstances and the survivors involved, recoverable damages may include lost support and services, loss of companionship, medical or funeral expenses, and certain losses suffered by the estate.

Florida also applies comparative fault principles in negligence cases. If fault is attributed to multiple parties, an award may be reduced according to the percentage of fault assigned under applicable Florida law. The specific effect of comparative fault depends on the facts and legal claims involved.
