Orange County, Florida (August 16, 2026) – A 41-year-old woman died following a motor vehicle crash in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The crash occurred around 2:30 p.m. near State Road 520 and Maxim Parkway.

According to investigators, the collision involved a Toyota Camry and a Mitsubishi Lancer. Authorities said the Camry was traveling above the speed limit and failed to stop at a red light before striking the left side of the Lancer.

The driver of the Lancer, a 41-year-old woman, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to troopers. Her identity has not yet been released.

The driver of the Camry, a 24-year-old man, was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, officials said.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing. Additional details concerning the circumstances of the collision and the identities of those involved may be released as the investigation continues.

General Legal Context for Fatal and Serious Injury Crashes in Florida

Florida motor vehicle crashes resulting in death or serious injury can involve both criminal and civil legal issues. Investigators may examine factors such as speeding, failure to obey traffic signals, distracted driving, impairment, vehicle condition, witness statements, and available video footage when determining how a collision occurred.

When a driver’s negligence or wrongful conduct contributes to a fatal crash, surviving family members may have potential civil claims for damages under Florida law. Depending on the circumstances, recoverable damages may include medical and funeral expenses, lost financial support, loss of companionship, and other losses recognized by law.

In crashes involving allegations of speeding or failure to stop at a traffic signal, evidence such as the official crash report, traffic-camera footage, vehicle damage, photographs, witness accounts, and accident reconstruction findings may be important in evaluating liability. Each case depends on its specific facts and available evidence.
