Orlando, Florida (August 9, 2026) – A man was killed early Monday after his vehicle ran a red light and collided with a tractor-trailer on Orange Blossom Trail in Orange County, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The fatal crash occurred at approximately 2 a.m. Monday near the State Road 417 interchange on Orange Blossom Trail, also known as U.S. Highway 441. According to investigators, the man was driving a Kia K4 southbound on Orange Blossom Trail when he ran a red light approaching the northbound exit ramp from State Road 417.

At the same time, a 2023 Freightliner tractor-trailer was exiting State Road 417 and attempting to make a left turn onto northbound Orange Blossom Trail. The Kia collided with the left side of the tractor-trailer. Following the impact, the Kia continued southbound, left the roadway, and struck a light pole near Town Center Boulevard.

The driver of the Kia suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. His identity has not been released. The 43-year-old Kissimmee man driving the tractor-trailer was not injured and remained at the scene, according to authorities.

The crash caused a temporary closure of Orange Blossom Trail in the area while emergency crews and investigators worked at the scene. Authorities said the Florida Highway Patrol continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the collision.

General Legal Context for Fatal Car Accidents in Florida

In Florida, fatal motor vehicle crashes may be investigated to determine whether negligence, traffic violations, impaired driving, excessive speed, distracted driving, roadway conditions, or other factors contributed to the collision. Investigators may review witness statements, vehicle damage, traffic signals, physical evidence, surveillance footage, and crash-reconstruction findings.

When a death results from negligence or wrongful conduct, eligible surviving family members may have a wrongful death claim under Florida law. Depending on the circumstances, potential damages may include funeral and burial expenses, medical expenses, loss of financial support and services, loss of companionship, and other losses permitted by Florida’s Wrongful Death Act.

Florida also applies comparative fault principles in negligence cases. When multiple parties are alleged to have contributed to an accident, the amount of compensation may be affected by the percentage of fault assigned to each party. The application of comparative fault depends on the facts and claims involved in a particular case.
