Orange County, Florida (August 6, 2026) – A 62-year-old Orlando man died following a fatal two-vehicle accident at an intersection in Lake Buena Vista, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
The crash occurred at approximately 3:49 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Winter Garden Vineland Road and Buena Vista Drive in Lake Buena Vista. Emergency responders arrived at the scene to provide medical assistance, secure the roadway, and begin investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision.
According to investigators, a 62-year-old Orlando man was driving an SUV eastbound on Winter Garden Vineland Road as he approached the intersection. A sedan traveling in the same direction was stopped ahead at a traffic signal when the SUV failed to stop and struck the rear left side of the sedan with its front right side. After the impact, the SUV continued eastbound before crashing into a light pole.
The SUV driver sustained critical injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the sedan, a 45-year-old Orlando man, was not injured and remained at the scene. Authorities said both drivers were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.
The sequence of events leading up to the collision remains under investigation. Florida Highway Patrol troopers continue reviewing evidence and gathering information to determine the factors that contributed to the fatal crash.
Authorities said additional details may be released as more information becomes available. The crash caused traffic disruptions in the area while law enforcement officers documented the scene and crews worked to clear the roadway.
In Florida, fatal rear-end collisions are investigated to determine whether factors such as distracted driving, following too closely, speeding, medical emergencies, mechanical failures, roadway conditions, or other circumstances contributed to the crash. Investigators may review witness statements, vehicle evidence, crash reports, surveillance footage, and other available information.
Fatal accident claims may involve questions of liability, insurance coverage, and potential compensation for eligible surviving family members. Depending on the circumstances, damages may include funeral expenses, medical costs, loss of financial support, loss of companionship, and other losses permitted under Florida law.
Florida follows a modified comparative negligence system, allowing eligible claimants to seek compensation if they are found to be 50% or less at fault for an incident. Any compensation awarded may be reduced based on the percentage of fault assigned.
