According to investigators, a 50-year-old man was driving a 2010 pickup truck southbound on Orange Blossom Trail when the vehicle traveled off the right side of the roadway and onto the sidewalk.

The pickup truck then struck a concrete post before hitting a traffic control sign, according to FHP. The impact caused the vehicle to overturn.

The driver was transported to a nearby hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Authorities have not released additional details regarding the victim’s identity.

General Legal Context for Fatal Vehicle Accidents in Florida

In Florida, fatal vehicle crashes are investigated to determine whether factors such as driver impairment, distraction, speeding, roadway conditions, vehicle defects, or other contributing circumstances played a role in the collision. Investigators may examine crash evidence, witness statements, vehicle condition, and roadway conditions as part of the review process.

Fatal accident claims may involve questions of liability, insurance coverage, and available compensation. Depending on the circumstances, eligible family members may pursue damages related to funeral expenses, loss of financial support, medical costs, and other losses allowed under Florida law.

Florida follows a modified comparative negligence system, allowing injured parties or eligible claimants to seek compensation if they are found to be 50% or less at fault for an incident. The amount of compensation available may be reduced based on the percentage of fault assigned.
