Man Killed in Tesla and Volkswagen Crash on North Florida Avenue in Tampa

Tampa, Fla. (July 14, 2026) – A man in his mid-30s was killed Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash involving a Tesla and a Volkswagen on North Florida Avenue in Tampa, according to the Tampa Police Department.

Investigators said the crash occurred shortly after 7 a.m. in the 11600 block of North Florida Avenue. A Tesla traveling northbound at a high rate of speed collided with a southbound Volkswagen as the Volkswagen attempted to make a left turn into a local dealership.

Authorities said the impact struck the passenger side of the Volkswagen, causing it to overturn. The Volkswagen driver, a man in his mid-30s, suffered critical injuries and was pronounced dead despite life-saving efforts by first responders. His identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

The driver of the Tesla, a man in his early 20s, sustained injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. Police said he was listed in stable condition.

Northbound lanes of North Florida Avenue between Fowler Avenue and Bougainvillea Avenue were closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene. All lanes have since reopened.

The Tampa Police Department continues to investigate the fatal crash and is asking anyone who witnessed the collision to contact investigators.
