Hillsborough County, Fla. (July 13, 2026) – A Florida Road Ranger was killed Sunday night after being struck by an alleged drunk driver while assisting at the scene of a crash on Interstate 75, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Investigators said the 24-year-old Road Ranger was working an earlier crash on the interstate when an impaired driver entered the scene and hit him. The Road Ranger died from his injuries at the scene.
The driver remained at the location and is facing criminal charges related to impaired driving and the fatal crash, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The identity of the Road Ranger has not been released pending notification of next of kin. Officials urged motorists to slow down and move over for emergency responders and roadside workers when approaching active crash scenes.
