Plant City, Fla. (July 09, 2026) – A driver is facing felony charges after allegedly causing a serious crash during a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 4 in Plant City on Saturday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Authorities said the pursuit began shortly before 8 a.m. after a state trooper attempted to stop a silver SUV that was traveling at more than 100 mph in a 70-mph zone. The driver allegedly continued fleeing, weaving through traffic, using the highway shoulder to pass vehicles, and driving recklessly.
Investigators said the SUV attempted to pass another vehicle on the shoulder, resulting in a violent collision with a black SUV. The crash occurred as the other driver appeared to move toward the shoulder to make way for the pursuing trooper.
The Florida Highway Patrol said the driver was taken into custody and is facing felony charges. The crash remains under investigation.
