Orlando, Fla. (June 20, 2026) – An Orlando man was arrested after allegedly leaving and later returning to the scene of a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a pedestrian, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
Officials said the crash occurred just before 8 p.m. Sunday at the intersection of Dean Road and Flowers Avenue in Orlando. When troopers arrived, they found a female victim receiving CPR. She was airlifted to a hospital in critical condition but later died from her injuries, authorities confirmed.
According to an arrest report, the driver initially fled the scene but returned approximately 45 minutes to an hour later in a different vehicle. Investigators identified the driver as 40-year-old Alexander James Petrone of Orlando. Authorities said he admitted to driving the vehicle involved in the crash but claimed he was unsure what he had struck.
Troopers later located the suspect’s damaged brown Honda Accord at his residence about two miles from the crash site, with damage consistent with a pedestrian collision, investigators said.
The investigation is ongoing.
